I’ve experienced many ‘firsts’ since deciding to embark on this adventure, with this – my first ever blog post – being another. Adventure forces you to experience new things and this is entirely my reason for doing it.
So, the majority of you will have arrived at my blog through hearing me talk about my adventure and having a desire to follow what I’m doing – for that I thank you. For those that have stumbled upon my blog (wishful thinking Fenja) there is no grand introduction or explanation that goes with my adventure, I am simply riding my bike to China. Me, on my bike, to China. Not riding round China, riding to China.
People ask me why, and the only real reason I can give is that events in my life aligned, a bit like the stars, literally all in a line at once, which gave me an opportunity to make decisions that previously hadn’t been options. I also realised that my 30th year was turning out to be a bit of a nothing year, and I really didn’t want my 30th year to be one that got forgotten, so I decided to flip it on its head and make it one I couldn’t possibly forget.
Another question I get asked a lot is “Why China?” China is merely the destination, it’s the getting there part that’s the real adventure. There was never any other option though, I didn’t consider South America or the Pacific Coast route, China just is the destination and no other option exists in my adventure.
In all seriousness though, the real draw for me is the scenery. I want to see the changing landscapes as I pass through the various countries along my cross-continental route. I want to learn about the environments that I will be cycling through and the people that live in those environments. I want to experience the lives of people that are dramatically different to the one that I’ve known for so long. I just want to be immersed in something totally different, I want to feel scared, I want to feel alone, I want to feel alive!
Wow, I am so rubbish at getting my thoughts out of my head, hopefully this will get easier.
My next two posts will be about my bike and my route………..Thanks for reading.
